Trump goes silent at campaign rally after microphone cuts out

US

Donald Trump’s microphone cut out for almost 20 minutes during a campaign event in Detroit, Michigan, leaving the Republican presidential candidate visibly irritated.

With just over two weeks to go before the US election on 5 November, the 78-year-old was addressing the crowd on Friday evening and saying how he “loves” the key battleground state when he went quiet.

Footage from the event shows Mr Trump pacing up and down the stage as he waits for someone to fix the issue.

Looking frustrated, his back is turned to most of his audience at times.

During Mr Trump’s silence, the crowd chants “USA” and “We love Trump” in support of the former president.

At one point, Mr Trump tries a different microphone but his voice is still inaudible.

He immediately promised not to pay the “stupid company” responsible for the defective sound equipment.

Before his mic cut out, Mr Trump told the crowd that if he wins the election, by the end of his term “the entire world will be talking about the Michigan miracle and the stunning rebirth of Detroit”.

He also said “[vice president Harris] Kamala and the Democrats have been wreaking havoc on this place”, before vowing to “bring it back better than it ever was”.
