Israel launches airstrikes in Lebanon – as Hezbollah responds with drone attacks

World

Israel has launched airstrikes inside Lebanon – as Hezbollah says it has begun an attack with a large number of drones.

Sirens have been heard in northern parts of Israel – and reports suggest flights to and from Tel Aviv have been suspended.

In a statement, the Israeli military accused Hezbollah of “preparing to file missiles and rockets toward Israeli territory”.

“In a self-defence act to remove these threats, the (Israeli military) is striking terror targets in Lebanon, from which Hezbollah was planning to launch their attacks on Israeli civilians,” Israeli military spokesman Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari said.

Hezbollah said it began an attack in response with a large number of drones following the killing of a top commander in Beirut last month.
