A soldier who died during a training exercise in Wales has been named.

Private Adam Brocklehurst, 27, died while on exercise at the Sennybridge training area in Powys on Wednesday, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) said.

Tributes have been paid to the soldier, with an MoD spokesperson saying he was “an army leader of the future”.

Some of his fellow troops said he was “football mad” and “loved” his home city of Salford.

Pte Brocklehurst joined the army in May 2019 and was most recently assigned to the Infantry Training Centre Support Battalion, joining 400 Troop.

He was described as a “mature soldier” who was “excellent at his job” and “never afraid to challenge the chain of command when necessary”.

Lieutenant Colonel Phil Morgan said Pte Brocklehurst had “an infectious personality and was always quick for a laugh”.

The private was “a standout performer across his troop, exuding loyalty, selfless commitment and respect for others,” Lt Col Morgan added.

“Tragically his career and life has been cut too short. Our deepest condolences are with his family during this sad time.”

Major Raju Dura said Pte Brocklehurst was a “professional and dedicated soldier” with a “positive attitude”.

“His persistent high standards, eye for detail and caring towards others made him a well-regarded member in the company,” he added.

“He passed away doing the job that he loved the most. We deeply miss him. On behalf of the company, I would like to extend sincere condolences to his loving family and friends.”
