Trump issues statement after ‘apparent assassination attempt’ at golf club

Donald Trump’s campaign has said he is safe after gunshots were reported in his vicinity on Sunday afternoon in Florida.

The campaign did not immediately provide any additional details.

However, Sky’s US partner NBC, citing a senior police officer, said Mr Trump was at Trump International Golf Course in West Palm Beach when what appeared to be the sound of gunfire was heard.

As a precaution, Secret Service agents moved him to safety.

NBC reported that there was no evidence Mr Trump was the target.

It comes two months after the Republican presidential nominee was shot during an assassination attempt at a rally in Pennsylvania.
