Body found in search for schoolboy swept away in river

A body has been found in the search for a missing 15-year-old boy who was swept away in a river in Angus.

Liam Buchan, from Dundee, was with family and friends when he got into difficulty in the River North Esk near Edzell on Saturday 15 July.

His disappearance sparked a major search, with teams from Police Scotland, the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, the Scottish Ambulance Service, mountain rescue and HM Coastguard called to the scene.

On Monday, police confirmed a body had been recovered from the river at around 1.30am.

Formal identification is yet to take place, but Liam’s family have been made aware.

A force spokesperson said: “There are no apparent suspicious circumstances and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal in due course.”
